This morning my tutor and I had a Google Hangout to discuss the work from my first assignment as well as the feedback and results I received from my Photography 2: Landscape assessment, which I will write about in more detail later.
Our talk was very positive and below are some bullet points I took from this discussion:
- My tutor feels that the photomontages created for the first part of the assignment work very well. He commented that the images were believable and that he like the hard edges produced by the overlaying of my images.
- With regard to the digital montage I created, he did not think that this image was as convincing and we discussed some ideas on how I could improve this by building upon my initial idea and image, which I will work on over the coming days.
- He can see no issue with the layout of my learning log (blog).
- The research I show within the blog is good, but could be better within my assignments. I need to start thinking and sharing more about context and report the circumstances that form my ideas, which in turn will tie things together more neatly, definitely something I need to improve upon.
I shared with him my disappointment surrounding the mark I received for my landscape assessment however, he said that I should not be disheartened as my score (58%) was a little above average and with some work, specifically around context, I should be able to improve on this and progress to the next bracket, although if I continue at this level, I should still be able to work towards my degree when this course comes to an end.
Regarding my next assignment, we talked in some detail about my feelings surrounding the use of found images over using image of my own and based on my current thinking surrounding the assignment, he has suggested that I research photographers who photograph their own family.
All in all, our discussion went well with no negatives, other than the re-working of my digital montage, to report, so now it is a case of knuckling down to see how much I can achieve between now and the end of the year. We have not set a date for the presentation of assignment two however, I think this will be ready sometime in February.
